I find it comforting to remember that there are things we can control amidst all of the uncertainty in the world right now.
We can care for ourselves and others, paying close attention to our mental and physical health.
It is important to be informed, but obsessing over each of the news stories pertaining to the pandemic is anxiety-provoking for most of us. Anxiety is known to lower your defences against disease prevention. Anxiety or stress can also affect your ability to get a good night’s sleep, which lowers your immune system further.
Some ideas to keep you feeling well and staying healthy:
drink plenty of water
Snack on vitamin C tablets
Make nutritious smoothies
Go for long walks
Listen to uplifting music and podcasts
Read inspiring stories. If you have young kids at home, read them to them!
Offer some contact-less help to a neighbour
Keep your social connection alive through phone, video, or whatever means required
When you cook, choose foods like soups, stews or chilis, so you can prepare extra for freezing in small portions
If you are feeling signs of cold or flu, limit dairy too
Employ a bedtime routine; turn off screens an hour before bed, do some deep breathing or meditation or journaling or positive visualization before turning out the light, and if possible go to bed and wake at the same time each day.
Prioritize family time with those in your household, and take this time to do a new project together -try a new recipe, play a new game, make a craft
Start a little spring cleaning; get the kids involved in the project.
Listen to what comes up for you in this different way of being.

Let’s ride this out in the healthiest way possible. If we keep ourselves well in mind and body, those around us will continue to thrive as well through our example.

Curious... what are your thoughts on meditation?
For many, it is that elusive thing you are 'supposed to do' that is somehow easy for other people but not you??
Do you wonder how you could ever find the time? Or think you'll never be good at it?
First, I nudge you to see it as a gift to yourself, not a 'should'. And also as something you can't mess up. It's true. Every minute you spend in conscious awareness, just noticing what is, and accepting it (including thoughts that may arise!), you are nourishing yourself. It's a reset button that requires no equipment or money. Amazingly, you will find yourself clearer and more productive after, so it will feel like you have MORE time.
The biggest gift meditation has given me has been the ability to notice that I can control my reactions. That frustration and anger don't come out of nowhere. That there are many moments leading up to it in which I have a choice to react differently.
It has changed my relationships in a big way, and I am a better mom, sister, partner, daughter, teacher and friend.
So if you're busy taking care of others and you're worried it's selfish or self-indulgent, just know your loved ones benefit as much as you do.
All it takes a commitment to growth and to understanding yourself better. And then you're off!
